Bleuchut:
Born and raised in Montreal, Michel Pontbriand grew up in a classical music environment attending a specialised school from 7 to 17 years old. During that period he played several instruments ( violin for 2 years, piano for 3 years, euphonium for 5 years, xylos and metallophones for 5 years ) and sing those 10 years for the school choir.
He afterward left that efficient but rigid environment for the DIY college of life. At age 17, he discovered bands like Mr. Bungle, Tortoise, Shellac, The Jesus Lizard, Mogwai, Sonic Youth, Godspeed You Black Emperor, The Melvins, John Zorn to nae a few, alongside the Festival De Musique Actuelle De Victoriaville....then Aphex Twin, Plastikman, Basic Channel, The Perlon crew and friends ( Dimbiman, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack, that Stephen Laubner track on the 13th release, Pantytec, Sammy Dee, Soulphiction, Kalabrese, Luciano,..), Herbert, Thomas Brinkmann and my friend Akufen then change my vision of what could be electronic music. He worked for Mutek's Hub Records shop for 3 years alongside Vincent Lemieux, Musique Risquée's headman. He's still into Prokofiev, Shostakovich and J.S Bach's - the Goldberg Variations by Glenn Gould ( that 1955 recording in NY ), a timeless classic. A fan of Ennio Morricone's and Peter Greenaway's movie soundtracks, he's also inspired by the ''Jazz Age'' spirit of the end of the 19th- beginning of the 20th century . He's now with the Musique Risquee crew in Montreal alongside the Mutek Festival. He run a weekly event called Fricoti every thurday nights @ Salon Daome in Montreal where yo can hear him djing. You'll hear is first release pretty likely in 2008.. Djing since 2000. Producing since 2006. Record seller ( Atom Heart 364b Sherbrooke e Montreal ) and @ the Mutek Festival since 2002. With the Musique Risquee crew since 2007.

Mike Shannon :
Over the last ten years Mike Shannon has been at the vanguard his craft using a lurid sense of personal aesthetic that has made him a luminary in the Canadian electronic music scene.
Raised in Kitchener Ontario, Mike began mixing records at fifteen with incisive extrapolations of acid house and techno before branching off to other elements of the electronic genre that manifest as diamond-edged production skills.
Using the vehicles of techno/house, and emotive elements that transcend and subvert the periodic table of known musical genres, he began to network with other artists and founded Cynosure recordings a label designed to serve as a platform for like-minded producers and artists adept at eliciting the emotional response of the listener by virtue of their uncompromising ethic towards a high artistic, yet accessible standard.
In its 9 years of existence, Cynosure has released singles from Latino/euro-tronic stalwarts like Pier and Andres Bucci, Monoblock, Ernesto Ferreyra and Sieg uber die Sonne a long side Canadian artists as Adam Marshall, Mossa and Deadbeat. Plus a few singles of his own and under the John Shananigans guise and collaborating with J.Hunsberger as the Sunaj Assassins. By 2000, with Cynosure quickly gaining a reputation for pushing a cutting edge sound that has been making waves both at home and overseas.
By 2001, Shannon caught the attention of the Force Inc. Music Works imprint, which signed his full-length debut, "Slight of hand". Mike took influences from Detroit techno's glory days and the present day minimal house movement presented a lush combination that received critical acclaim. That year Mike and Jeff Milligan would formally partner on the operation of Jeff's imprint Revolver Canada. Mike and Jeff both relocated in Montreal to begin working closer with the core of the prolific Cynosure and Revolver artist roster.
In 2003 he relocated to Santiago, Chile for a six months tour/production adventure. He began to work on a down-tempo project that later blossomed into an album called ?possible conclusions to stories that never end in 2005 was signed to Berlin?s infamous Scape records. Fusing minimal techno?s finely honed rhythmic instincts with classic downbeat?s braoder tonal palette.
After 6 months of touring South America, and working with other music pioneers as well as firing off a volley of new releases and remixes Mike then returned to Montreal to continue studio work on other forthcoming emanations that were released on Logistic, Wagon Repair and Dumb-unit.
Currently located in Berlin Germany Mike continues seeking only explore the possibilities of experimentation in house music and to undermine the formula that afflicts music, life and spirit.

Stephen Beaupré :
More than 10 years of active participation on the Montreal scene has converted Stephen Beaupré into an uncontestable dj/artist in the world of Canadian music. Attracting attention with his Crackhaus project, for which he collaborates with his friend and fellow artist Deadbeat, Steve has managed to gain recognition as a solo artist with his EP Dirty Lipreading on the upstart Montreal label Musique Risquée, launched by Akufen and Vincent Lemieux. 2006 brought the release of his first solo album, the masterful Foe Destroyer, released on both Musique Risquée and MUTEK_REC.
His particular approach to music manifests itself in decomposed and syncopated rhythms, which he develops with an incredible spontaneity. Animated ambiances based upon abstract and organic textures abound in his productions, where an equal measure of house and techno interplay with elements of funk, guided by a strong artistic sensitivity. Diverse vocals and instrumentation, reworked with humor, intermingle with intense beats, delivering both a relaxed and agitated tone to his pieces.
Cutting his teeth as an adolescent promoter for electronic music events in Ottawa, Stephen became quickly seduced by the more substantial rhythms and textures of house and techno that was striving to be deeper, funkier and more engaging. He began djing at 18, always with a mind for the dancefloor, always trying to stay close to the crowd. With a love for gritty punchy music, at once technological and organic, Stephen skillfully mixes dancefloor rocking tracks always trying to create an atmosphere of humor, excitement and malaise.
Over the past few years Stephen has toured in four continents both solo and with Crackhaus performing in such cities as Tokyo, Berlin, Beijing, Detroit, Valparaiso, Mexico City, Paris and New York to name a few. He has played along side such luminaries as Matthew Herbert, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Pole, Isolée, Dimbiman and many other like-minded artists.

Marc Leclair aka Akufen :
Marc Leclair aka Akufen has come a long way in the four years since the release of his now-classic debut album, My Way (Force Inc. 2002). In that time he's garnered a reputation as one of the planet's most in-demand DJ's , not to mention one of the scenes most talented delivering prime-time sets to exuberant crowds all over the world.
He's started his own label, Musique Risquée. And bucking all expectations, his follow-up to My Way was not another Akufen mission statement, but an altogether different beast, Musique pour 3 femmes enceintes (Mutek_Rec, 2005), released under his own name, which showcased a more experimental bent to his restless sense of artistry.
You could say that, true to his credo, Marc Leclair still does things his way.
For a lot of producers, the Akufen way has simply become the way to assemble tracks. After the release of My Way, Leclair was humbled by the unparalleled accolades and legions of admiring peers who began paying homage to his micro-sampling aesthetic. And yet, for Leclair, like any true artist, making music has always been a matter of where to go next, to find those stones still left unturned.
The aesthetic for the Akufen stuff is changing a lot, he explains. It's become much more old-school, funkier and more downtempo, with a bit more hip-hop favour. To be sure, no matter which way you break it down Akufen is still in the business of making dance music. As for now, he's meticulously composing his next attack and looking to show us new ways of dancing. He's gauging the temperaments he culls from the world's dance floors while DJing and then crafting his response.
Rest assured Marc has seen more of the world?s dance floors in the past four years than he has daylight. I'm touring like crazy. I'm gone three weeks out of every month. Every stop is like a tutorial for him, every dancer a lesson. For those who show up looking for a whirlwind micro-house extravaganza, along the lines of his monstrous Fabric 17 mix (Fabric, 2004), walk away knowing that Akufen is a DJ who shows up not fulfill expectations but to trump them. Give him half a chance, and he'll fuck with your head.
My DJ sets are getting more experimental, more technological dance music than techno, with still a little bit of house thrown in. Actually, I?m even clearing out the house records to create a more mental experience from the DJ set, by playing more electronic music with an edge.
When he's not DJing, Leclair considers himself a conceptual artist first and music producer second. Perhaps his most considered artistic statement of late has been his least recognized. In 2005, Leclair issued a second full-length called Musique pour 3 femmes enceintes, a boldly experimental meditation on the cycle of pregnancy. He has performed the piece at London's Tate Modern and across the world.
In 2005, at the prestigious Ars Electronica festival, Leclair debuted an audio-visual version of Musique as part of a project called 5mm, which includes fellow Montrealer Gabriel Coutu-Dumont, who handles the visual component of the performance. The pair will be presenting the audio-visual incarnation of the ever-progressing work at the 2006 edition of the Mutek Festival. A CD-ROM release of this performance will soon follow. Then he leaves for China, where he will spend a month working on his next audio-visual project, which will focus on ancient Chinese music.
And yet, when not recording music or traveling around the world's nightclubs and museums, Leclair finds time to remix other artists, run his own label, and even work on side projects. These days, he?s remixing Mike Shannon and Radiq, two more names to add to a reputable roster that already includes Richie Hawtin, Cabaret Voltaire, Yello, Massive Attack, Thomas Dolby, and Thomas Brinkmann, to name but a few.
As for Musique Risquée, Leclair's boutique label, its catalogue continues to swell with new and respected talent alike. Whether it?s the latest whim from his own studios, or the work of artists like Atom TM, The Rip Off Artist, Philippe Cam, Crackhaus, The Mole, Stephen Beaupré, Trendsetter & the Followers, or Bruno Pronsatto, Risquée records live up to their namesake and go a long way toward lining the Akufen DJ bag.
Leclair has even released some new music on the Perlon label's popular Superlongevity 4 compilation, as Horror Inc. And this is what he seems most excited about at the moment. The new Horror Inc. stuff is totally cinematic, jazzy and really dark, he says. Whatever he has in store for us, we're listening.
Akufen is now working finishing some new material and the new album to be released during 2008.
